Raiding and Progression Raiding

Taunt recognises two specific types of raiding player: Basic raiding and progression raiding. These map to the ranks Veteran and Progressor.

Basic raiding requires a lot of effort, but is generally much easier to achieve the minimum standards which are discussed below and throughout the site. These are usually our Heroic an optional raids.

Progression raiding is amongst the most challenging content in the game. The standards for this shift and many things will be taken into consideration. If things are vitally different from normal raiding this is discussed separately. Being selected for the progression runs will require many items to be considered. Having high gear, or high DPS is just part of a larger requirement that often changes on a per-boss basis. Please bear this in mind.

Often a Veteran raider will given the chance to help us in Progression, but this not guaranteed. There are casual Veterans who just enjoy the relaxed Basic raiding, and some who are working toward being Progressors.

Be ready

The following are basic requirements for all

Gear

Gear is a complex issue, and can be deceptively difficult to master. However there are some basic things to consider which are required before you are allowed to raid:

If you need advice, there are many sites to advise on this, such as Icy Veins, WoWhead, and a million more. In particular Raidbots is good to tweak your gear at high level.

As a specific example of the above you are expected to push a M+ to at high level (preferable at least level 10 each week). Weekends are the optimal time for this, and NOT last minute on Tuesday.

Currently the Mythic progression raids will be challenging, and we will have to be very selective. If you wish to raid Mythic, you should have:

If you are looking at getting into raiding for a new character, it is possible to miss opportunities and become overwhelmed by the various options. Here is a quick "gotcha" list that will help you to be ready for raiding:

Consumables

To raid with the guild, the following consumables are required to be used at all times unless otherwise stated:

There are some temporary points of note that are relevant in the first weeks of Shadowlands:

Note that the situation is very fluid and so this section is likely to change a lot!

We regularly check logs and see who is using these items. They make a huge difference to raid performance, so they're absolutely vital. The officers have addons to check whether you are using them, and will call out people not using them.

To be clear:

Tactics

Before raiding, all players are expected to know the tactics well. There is a comprehensive tactics section of this site and you should review it. Specifically, this is the fastest way to learn the guild approach (as opposed to generic tactics). It will be updated whenever the raid tactics change, so please ensure that you keep checking this information.

There also are plenty of YouTube videos showing tactics and discussing approaches. There are just as many written guides, with WoWhead being a good source.

If you are not doing absolute progression, LFR and normal runs can really give you a key insight into the fight. People do not need to be perfect, and the guild gladly will help with tactics. Open honest discussion about what you know and don't know is great. Mistakes are also fine! Everyone has a first time raiding.

However... Please note that it is incredibly annoying when people claim to know the tactics then are immediately killed because of a predictable mechanic that they obviously didn't know about which is literally the entire point of the fight (*cough stygian-annihilation*). Often people try to claim they know tactics then die like this and behave badly because they have been exposed. Please do not be "that guy".
